Allison Aston, BA (Family History)

Allison Aston completed her studies in 2007 and currently works full-time as a genealogist for ProGenealogists, located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Genealogy has always been an interest to Allison. Even as a child she found old family photographs, records, and cemeteries fascinating. Her love of United States history led her to begin her collegiate studies as a History Major, but after completing a project that involved researching the lives of her great-grandparents, she realized that learning more about and understanding them and other people like them was extremely compelling to her. This discovery led her to change her major to Family History and Genealogy and she has never looked back.

While attending Brigham Young University, Allison focused her studies in French and English research. At that time, she also worked for the Basque Family Heritage in the United States Project, a project that identified people of Basque heritage in United States records and linked them to their family members through the use of a database. This job helped her become familiar with online resources, including United States Federal Census records, military records, immigration records, and vital records indexes.

During her internship in England, France, and Italy, Allison was given the opportunity to perform genealogical research and to obtain copies of emigration records for BYU’s Immigrant Ancestors Project. Now Allison is expanding her areas of focus to include different aspects of United States research, including immigration problems and heir research.
