Joseph B. Shumway, AG

A native of Star Valley, Wyoming, Joseph discovered the thrill of genealogy at age twelve. At age fourteen he began volunteering at his local Family History Center and by age sixteen he found himself teaching classes and giving lectures on various genealogical topics. In 2001, Joseph was honored by the Wyoming State Historical Society and was presented the Young Historian of the Year Award for his efforts in directing the compilation of local cemetery records.

Joseph studied Family History and Genealogy at Brigham Young University and has also served as a volunteer British Reference Consultant at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is a member of the Genealogical Speaker’s Guild (GSG) and several other genealogical societies and associations. He currently serves as Vice President for the Salt Lake Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG). In 2007 he obtained his AG (Accredited Genealogist) credential.

Joseph has developed excellent problem solving and analytical skills and enjoys solving difficult genealogical problems. He enjoys researching in practically any location; however, his primary areas of expertise include:
